is stepping in to defend Kathy Griffin!
When asked on Wednesday night at the premiere of I’m Dying Up Here if Griffin crossed the line, the 55-year-old actor not only told Variety that Kathy should “hold up a severed leg as well” but also said comedians are the “last voice of truth.”
The energetic impressionist explained his stance to ET saying:
“I think it is the job of a comedian to cross the line at all times — because that line is not real. If you step out into that spotlight and you’re doing the crazy things that [Trump is] doing, we’re the last line of defense. And really, the comedians are the last voice of truth in this whole thing. It’s impossible to get away from it.”
Carrey went on to describe an admittedly-controversial dream he recently had involving POTUS:
“I had a dream the other night that I was playing golf with Donald Trump. I was standing beside him with a club in my hand and I was considering my options when I suddenly woke up. It was one of those dreams where you want to go back to sleep so you can finish it, you know? But I’ve taken up golf anyway.”
Elsewhere on the carpet, the Dumb & Dumber star finished his thought to Extra:
“I see that everybody’s a hypocrite because everybody’s imagined themselves standing there with his head, maybe at least half the country. We’re in a tough spot. It’s a very divided world. We’re sitting here watching this nonsense happen and people like Sean Spicer come out and talk about it like we’re kindergartners. You know, covering for the President is like putting makeup on a melanoma — not only unsightly but it’s dangerous.”
Now, that’s a fair point!
